INTRODUCING SHIFT CHANGE!
Helping you keep your head on straight at home and at the rink - as you shift from parent to manager and back again.
MANAGING SO HARD
You probably work full time. You obviously have at least one child. You are definitely driving back and forth to the rink several times each week. On top of dinners, tournament snacks, skate sharpening, and water bottle labeling, you decided that you also want to manage your child’s hockey team. You’re organized (as a hockey parent, you kind of have to be), go to every game anyway and love your team’s club. Plus, the power to do fun stuff like pick the away hotel is a perk!
Now that the season is nearing, you’re starting to panic. You know most people but some are new. There’s a nagging feeling you should try to get everyone together but you’re not sure how to broach the subject. What exactly is it you’re supposed to do anyway? Well, pretty much everything. But IT’S OKAY. First, send an email introducing yourself to the team. Humor is usually appreciated. Choose an app for scheduling and chatting (especially useful at doubleheaders - everyone is walking out but where would you like to meet for lunch?). Then everything will fall into place. Instructions will trickle down from the league to the coach and to you. Your Barn Bag already includes a template for roster stickers so if you have a showcase before the season starts, quickly fill it out with names and numbers and print it right at home. Look through the Barn Bag spreadsheet so you know what to plan for during the season; will you do goody bags at the aways tournaments? How many parents know how to keep stats? Throw everything in your bag and fill your coffee high in case you get thrown in the scorekeeping box (hint: it is the most likely place there will be a heater, it’s not all bad!). Let Barn Bag guide you through the rest.

"I had a lot of stuff to do today. Now I have a lot to do tomorrow."
